Financial Aid Process

While the financial aid application process can sometimes seem daunting, we'll provide you with the resources and guidance you need to complete it—every step of the way.

Federal Financial Aid - FAFSA

To apply for federal financial aid, you need to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to the University of Denver using our school code of 001371. This application must be filled out each academic year and will determine your eligibility for federal student loans, and Federal Work Study. 

FAFSA Priority Deadlines:  

  • Incoming students: March 1st 

  • Continuing students: February 15th if you will be applying for named scholarships. April 15th for all other continuing students.

Financial Aid Timeline

  • Prospective and Newly Admitted Student Timeline

    Beginning September 1st 

    • Apply for admission to Sturm College of Law. All admitted students are automatically considered for merit scholarships. 

    • Scholarship awards are made at the time of admission and included in the admission email. If a scholarship was not included in your offer of admission email, you were not selected as a scholarship recipient. We do not offer a scholarship negotiation or appeal process.  

    • Scholarships are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis. We encourage students to apply early to ensure funds are available. 
        

    October – February 

    • You do not need wait until you are admitted to file the FAFSA.  

    • You will need your federal tax return information to file the FAFSA. If you have already completed your return, you will have the option to import your tax information from the IRS. 

    • Check your FAFSA status 

    March 

    • Financial Aid Notifications begin to be sent to admitted students to the email address that was provided on the FAFSA 

    • If you are admitted or submit your FAFSA after March 1st, your financial aid notification will be emailed to you within 1-2 weeks of your admission to Denver Law or the receipt of your FAFSA, whichever comes later. 

    • Once you receive your financial aid offer, you can view and accept in My4D 

    April 

    • To secure your seat in the class, and your scholarship, you must submit the admissions tuition deposit by the deadlines listed in your admissions letter. 
       

    July 

    • If interested, sign up for a payment plan before the deadline. 

    August 

    • View your Fall semester bill in DUPay  

  • Continuing Student Timeline

    October – April  

    • If you are applying for Named Scholarships be sure to submit your FAFSA by February 15th  

    February  

    • The Named Scholarships application becomes available. Be sure to submit by the deadline as late applications will not be accepted.  
       

    May 

    • Financial aid notifications begin to be emailed to continuing students on a rolling basis 

    • Notifications are sent to your DU email address 

    • Once you receive your financial aid offer, you can view and accept in My4D 

    July 

    • If interested, sign up for a payment plan before the deadline. 

    August 

    • View your Fall semester bill in DUPay
