Academics

At the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, our students are taught by the finest faculty members, many of whom are practitioners as well as scholars. Our extensive curriculum is designed to balance doctrinal and experiential approaches to legal education, with a special emphasis on learning the law by truly “practicing” the law. In fact, the National Jurist magazine regularly ranks Denver Law in the top 10 in the nation for “Best Schools for Practical Training,” and our Live Client Guarantee, part of Denver Law’s Experiential Advantage Curriculum, was named the #1 Most Promising Innovation in law schools by preLaw.

At the Sturm College of Law, there are numerous programs that ground students in legal theory and practice. Our Student Law Office is one of the oldest clinical programs in the country and our Moot Court and Appellate Advocacy teams have competed in—and won!—many national and international competitions. Certificates showing expertise in a specific subject area of the law are available in all five of our flagship programs, as well as Intellectual Property Law. Our students have access to one of the most robust legal externship programs in the country: In 2015-16, the program placed 343 students in more than 400 externships, and worked with over 245 supervising attorneys. Talk about hands-on experience!
