Financial Aid Process

While the financial aid application process can sometimes seem daunting, we'll provide you with the resources and guidance you need to complete it—every step of the way.

Federal Financial Aid - FAFSA

To apply for federal financial aid, you need to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to the University of Denver. This application has to be filled out each academic year and will determine your eligibility for federal student loans, and Federal Work Study.

The priority deadline for filing your FAFSA is January 15th for new students and March 15th for continuing students.

  • Prospective and Newly Admitted Student Timeline

    Fall-Winter
    Apply for admission to the Sturm College of Law. This will get you automatic consideration for our merit scholarships.

    • Scholarship awards are made at the time of admission and included in the admission email.
    • Scholarships are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis, we encourage students to apply early to ensure funds are available.

     

    October-January
    Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online. DU’s school code is 001371.

    • You do not need wait until you are admitted to file the FAFSA. The priority deadline for new students is January 15.
    • You will need your federal tax return information to file the FAFSA. If you have already completed your return, you will have the option to import your tax information from the IRS.
    • Once you submit your FAFSA, it takes Denver Law approximately one week to receive it from the Department of Education.

    • Chancellor Scholarship application deadline is January 15.

     

    Mid-February
    Financial aid notifications begin to be sent to admitted students.

    • Notifications are sent to the email address that you provided on the FAFSA.
    • If you are admitted or submit your FAFSA after the start of February, your financial aid notification will be emailed to you within 1-2 weeks of your admission to Denver Law or the receipt of your FAFSA, whichever comes later.
    • Once you receive your financial aid award, you can view and accept it online on the Law Student or Incoming Graduate Student tabs of PioneerWeb

    Late April
    In order to secure your seat in the class, and your scholarship, you must submit the admissions tuition deposit by the deposit deadline listed in your letter.

     

    June-July
    Complete online Entrance Counseling and Master Promissory Note(s) if you are interested in borrowing student loans.

     

    Mid-July
    Fall-semester tuition statements are emailed to students

    • To view your statement, go to the Law Student tab of PioneerWeb


    August
    Orientation and Classes Begin

    • Tuition is due on August 22.
    • Financial Aid Refunds begin to be issued to students the week prior to the start of classes

  • Continuing Student Timeline

    October-March
    Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online. DU’s school code is 001371.

    • The priority deadline for continuing students is March 15th.
    • If you are applying for Named Scholarships, be sure to submit your FAFSA by March 1st.

    February
    The Named Scholarships application becomes available. Be sure to submit it by February 28th!

     

    May
    Financial aid notifications begin to be emailed to continuing students

    • Notifications are sent to your DU email address.
    • Once you receive your financial aid award, you can view and accept it online on the Law Student tab of PioneerWeb

    Mid-July
    Fall-semester tuition statements are emailed to students

    • To view your statement, go to the Law Student tab of PioneerWeb
    • Be sure to check your status to confirm you have completed all requirements to receive aid

     

    August
    Classes Begin

    • Tuition is due on August 22.
    • Financial Aid Refunds begin to be issued to students the week prior to the start of classes
    • For additional information go to Billing and Financial Aid Refunds
