Colorado LGBTQ+ Bar Association Recognizes Sturm College of Law Honorees
Students, faculty, and alumni of the University of Denver Sturm College of Law were well represented at the Colorado LGBTQ+ Bar Association’s (CLBA) Annual Scholarship Gay-la this year, with Professor and Associate Dean of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Alexi Freeman, current student Brook Langmaid, and alumna Amalia Sax-Bolder, JD’13, receiving honors.
At the event, which was held at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts Sewall Ballroom on October 17, Freeman was honored with the Community Spotlight Award, recognizing her work in providing a safe haven for students at the law school and her work with Denver Law Ascent.
Langmaid, who is currently a 2L, received one of two Summit Scholarships, which provides financial assistance to law students who have demonstrated ability and commitment to affecting change in LGBTQ+ communities through work in the legal profession.
Langmaid shared, “When I graduate, I hope to represent vulnerable communities and individuals who might be experiencing humanity’s harshest challenges. I have found it especially meaningful to work with immigrants and survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. I hope to amplify their voices and uplift their stories of resilience while providing a safe space to be seen, heard, respected.”
Sax-Bolder, shareholder at Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck, received the Attorney of the Year Award, which recognizes an individual’s exceptional work and dedication to advancing the rights and representation of the LGBTQ+ community in Colorado. Sax-Bolder has provided pro bono support to amicus briefs regarding matters affecting LGBTQ+ youth and families.
Graduates of the Sturm College of Law are also involved in the leadership of the CLBA. Alex Thomas, JD’21, is currently in the role of president, and Kelsey Martin, JD’21, will be the incoming president in 2026.
