Professional Biography

Jackson A. Laughlin is an adjunct professor, co-teaching Criminal Defense Investigation. Jackson began his legal career as a law clerk to the Honorable Kenneth M. Laff on the Denver District Court. Since then, Jackson has served as a Deputy State Public Defender in the Brighton Regional Office of the Colorado State Public Defender's Office.
 
Jackson's practice focuses exclusively on providing criminal defense representation to incarcerated and indigent individuals. Jackson has represented clients accused of virtually every criminal act - from homicide and sexual assault to theft and burglary. In addition to carrying a full felony caseload, Jackson has also supervised rising 2L law student interns since 2022.
 
In 2022, Jackson was awarded the "Champion of Jurisprudence" Award from the Adams-Broomfield Bar Association. In 2023, Jackson was named the "Gary McPherson Outstanding Young Lawyer of the Year" by the Colorado Bar Association.
 
Jackson received his JD from Harvard Law School, cum laude, in 2020, and received undergraduate degrees in Applied Behavioral Science and Political Science, with Highest Distinction, from the University of Kansas in 2017.
