History of DU Law Stars
DU Law Stars is a program of the University of Denver Sturm College of Law Alumni Council to honor distinguished alumni and faculty, raise funds for the Student Law Office (SLO) and the Law Stars Scholarship Fund and to unite DU Law Alumni in a celebration of their peers. The event started in 1993 with fewer than 300 people in attendance, but now draws over 800 people from the Denver legal community and over $200,000 is raised each year. Proceeds from the event fund the DU Law Student Law Office (SLO) as well as the DU Law Alumni Scholarship Fund.
Each year, a commemorative video is made of each honoree highlighting their accomplishments. Several alumni and friends serve on the creative team. They write the scripts, perform the voice-overs, select the music, emcee the event and add a humorous and personal element to Law Stars. We guarantee that no matter what happens, the event concludes by no later than 9:00 p.m. Our motto is "Jordan Wine and Out by Nine."

DU Law Stars Beneficiaries
DU Law Alumni Scholarship Fund
The DU Law Alumni Scholarship Fund provides scholarships to law students who meet superior academic standards and demonstrate financial need. The Sturm College of Law is able to provide more than $3 million each year in scholarships and awards based upon alumni support. Without such assistance, ever-rising costs and government reductions in loan programs threaten to restrict legal education to those who cannot independently bear the financial burden. The College of Law is committed to maintaining its 111-year tradition of encouraging economic and social diversity in the legal profession by working to increase financial aid resources. This commitment is a vital part of our ability to attract a diverse and talented student body.
Student Law Office
The University of Denver College of Law established its legal aid dispensary in 1904 and was the first school in the nation to offer students academic credit for providing legal services to low-income clients. Working to empower low income individuals and communities, the Student Law Office provides an effective learning environment in which students become highly competent and ethical lawyers through real-life representation. The program supports a sustained level of productive work wherein self-directed students learn from practice to develop the core characteristics of professionals and to provide high quality legal services to low-income clients and communities. Students serve our clients in five clinics within the SLO: Civil Litigation Clinic, Criminal Defense Clinic, Low Income Taxpayers Clinic, Mediation/Arbitration Clinic, Civil Rights and Disabilities Clinic. For more information visit the Student Law Office's website at http://www.law.du.edu/clinics.
