ASCEND Campaign Doubles Law School Endowed Scholarships
I’m delighted to announce that we successfully concluded the law school portion of the ASCEND Campaign on June 30, 2014. We raised over $45 million, thanks to the generosity of more than 5,000 University of Denver Sturm College of Law alumni and friends. These gifts will significantly enhance our students’ educational experience and strengthen Denver Law for the long term.
Support for scholarships was a hallmark of the ASCEND campaign. Donors’ generosity created 71 new scholarships, which more than doubled the number of endowed scholarships that had been established in the law school’s previous 122 years. The amount of donor-funded aid we will be able to offer is more than four times more per student than when the campaign began. When coupled with the increased institutional scholarships we offer, we are able to cover, on average, 23% of students’ tuition costs.
Gifts to the campaign reached all aspects of the law school, including launching our innovative international business transactions program, the nation’s first chaired professorship in modern learning, and distinguished programming in international law, constitutional law, energy, and many other areas. Gifts to DU Law Stars supported the Clinical and Judicial Fellows programs. Funded in-house corporate fellowships provided the opportunity for Denver Law students to gain invaluable experience—and in some cases jobs upon graduation with their host corporations.
ASCEND is a milestone in Denver Law’s history, and it is transforming our future. We are extremely grateful to our supporters. Because of you, our students are better prepared to hit the ground running. Thank you.
