Fellowship Job Descriptions

Generally, both Fellowships are intended to expose students to the culture of an in-house legal department and to enable the Fellows to better understand the unique needs and circumstances of corporate clients. As part of the Fellowships, the corporation will, as best it can, integrate the Fellows into all aspects of the legal department. This will include an appropriate cross section of work assignments and, where appropriate, participation in departmental meetings and activities. Each corporation will appoint a supervisory attorney to the Fellow, who will be responsible for coordinating assignments and ensuring adequate feedback.

Specifically, the DaVita position will work with various members of the Justice League of DaVita (aka the Legal Department) on different aspects of the company’s business. In particular, the Fellow will assist in the following areas: operations, mergers and acquisitions, regulatory, labor and employment and litigation. As part of the position, the Fellow will have interaction with DaVita business managers as well as local and national lawyers that work with the company.

With Molson Coors Brewing Company (MCBC), the selected Fellow will work with various members of MCBC’s in-house department on various aspects of the company’s business. In particular, the Fellow will gain exposure to securities law issues for the NYSE-listed company and other transactional matters for its international business activities. As part of the position, the Fellow will have interaction with business representatives of MCBC as well as a variety of local, national and international lawyers that work with the company.

***If the MCBC Fellow does not have any other employment at the conclusion of the Fellowship term, that individual may work as a Faculty Fellow with a Denver Law faculty member (faculty member TBD). The “Faculty Fellow” portion of the program is 20 hours/week and paid at the rate of $9/hr. It can extend until the Fellow finds permanent employment or until April 15, 2014, whichever comes first. The Faculty Fellow component of this program is intended to give the Fellow the opportunity to avoid a resume gap and to continue gaining experience while seeking permanent employment. Questions about the Faculty Fellow component can be directed to Eric Bono, Assistant Dean for Career Opportunities at ebono@law.du.edu or 303-871-6478.
