Mission Statement

As Environmental and Natural Resources law continues to grow in prominence and popularity, the NRELS will continue to serve, educate, and provide information to law students regarding these important fields. NRELS sponsors several guest speakers throughout the year to provide its members, and all students, with topical and balanced information regarding legal and political issues of local, national, and global importance. NRELS is a proud sponsor of the NRELS Moot Court competition generally held early in the Spring Semester. NRELS also sponsors field trips to local areas of environmental significance.

• ABA Section of Natural Resources, Energy and Environmental Law
• CEC — The Commission for Environmental Cooperation was established by Canada, Mexico and the United States in 1994 to address transboundary environmental concerns in North America. While the idea to create such a commission originated during the negotiations of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), it derives its formal mandate from the North American Agreement for Environmental Cooperation (NAAEC). The Agreement (NAAEC) builds upon, and complements the environmental provisions established in NAFTA. It creates a North American framework whereby trade and environment-related goals can be pursued in an open and cooperative way.
• Envirobiz — Envirobiz is an international environmental information network offering directories of environmental services, products and technology, state agencies, and associations. Select the “directories” link to search databases of over 7,000 environmental service providers.
• Envirolink — Envirolink is a network “started to provide a central location for ALL environmental information that exists on-line, plus as much information that can be gathered from other sources.” Valuable resource to locate information on environmental issues and action by the non-profit community.
• Environmental Ethics Journal — Environmental Ethics Journal is “[a]n interdisciplinary journal dedicated to the philosophical aspects of environmental problems.”

• Environmental Organizations — The self-proclaimed “Amazing Environmental Organization Web Directory” offers links to environmental and other greenish resources on the Internet. The resources are divided by subject matter (e.g., forestry, pollution, vegetarianism).
• National Library for the Environment — The National Library for the Environment is operated by the Center for the National Institute of the Environment. The library will consist of three on-line components: Congressional Research Service Reports, an encyclopedia of the environment, and in-depth environmental Issues. Currently, over 100 congressional reports are available and arranged by a subject index. A searchable title index is also available.
• Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation — A non-profit legal organization dedicated to the study of the legal systems and issues affecting mineral and water resources. Includes links of sites of interest to natural resources professionals and master calendar of natural resources conferences.
