The Library for Law School students, faculty, and staff provides access to Westlaw, Lexis and Bloomberg Law. These legal research platforms require individual passwords to access. See the instructions below for how to acquire passwords.
How Do I Get My Lexis, Westlaw and Bloomberg Passwords?
Individual passwords are provided to law students, law faculty and law staff for Lexis, Westlaw, and Bloomberg. These databases may only be used for educational purposes.
1L’s – First year students receive passwords as part of the admissions process. Passwords will be sent to students along with other orientation information before school starts. Database training is a required part of the Lawyering Process curriculum.
Visiting / Transfer Students – Visiting / Transfer students can request passwords at the Reference Desk on the second floor of the Law Library if they have not already received their passwords during their orientation meeting with Student Affairs.
Continuing Law Students – Upper level law students will use the same passwords throughout their time at the DU College of Law. Students who have lost or forgotten their passwords can request assistance at the Reference Desk in the Law Library.
Tax Students – Graduate tax students receive their LexisNexis, Westlaw & Bloomberg passwords during Orientation.
LLM, Master’s, and MSLA Students – Students in these graduate programs receive their passwords during Orientation.
Law Faculty – New faculty will receive passwords from Jessica Hogan, Manager of Educational Technology (303-871-6131) or Karina Condra, Research Librarian (303-871-6567).
Law Adjunct Faculty – Adjunct faculty for the College of Law can request passwords from Karina Condra, Research Librarian (303-871-6567) or Jessica Hogan, Manager of Educational Technology (303-871-6131). These passwords are valid only for the semester in which you are teaching.
University of Denver Students & Faculty – Non-law students and faculty at the University of Denver are not allowed full Westlaw or LexisNexis access due to our contractual arrangement with these companies. Limited LexisNexis access is provided to these individuals through a database which the Law Library subscribes to called LexisNexis Academic. Limited Westlaw access is available from two designated computers on the second floor of the Law Library.
Law School Alumni, Library Cardholders & other Patrons – These patrons have access to Westlaw from two designated computers located on the second floor of the Law Library.
Westlaw Public Terminals
Non-law school community library patrons can use Westlaw for free on two of the 2nd level public access computers. Available databases include state and federal case law and statutes, Am Jur publications, and the Colorado Practice Series. Please ask for assistance at the Reference Desk.
