Precision medicine refers to a model of health care that takes into account individual differences in people’s genetics, environments, and lifestyles, and tailors medical treatment to the characteristics of each patient. If we want the benefits of precision medicine to reach diverse populations, then we need to ensure that precision medicine research recruits diverse participants. Unbalanced participation will likely lead to health disparities and exacerbate already existing disparities.
