ADC Mock Jurors Needed
Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at 9:00am - 1:00pm
Location: The Ralph L. Carr Judicial Center
It is that time when ADC is gearing up for our big trial advocacy training and we could really use your help. We are a little earlier than usual this year, with Mock Jury Duty falling on January 26, 2016, which is why your “summons” is arriving before Christmas. Many of you have been able to pitch in during past trainings and we are so thankful! For those of you who have not, here are a few details about what we are asking. Each year, we conduct a week-long trial skills training where the lawyers practice what they are taught. One of the most difficult parts of a trial is jury selection…because it involves talking to strangers about topics that don’t usually come up in conversation. That is where you come in! Many people are curious about what happens when you get called into jury duty, but don’t have weeks to sit on a jury. Others are curious about what lawyer are taught about trying cases and some just wonder what the heck goes on in a courtroom. This is your chance to find out and still be done by lunchtime…no matter what! The lawyers will be working on a hypothetical murder case…so that will be the case on which you are being called to “serve.” Please come help us with the case of the People v. Manual Salazar.
Here are the details:
WHO? Anyone who is interested and available. We can use as many people as possible!
WHAT? Report for duty and just talk about yourself…or the character you decide to play. You don’t need to disclose anything that makes you uncomfortable. It isn’t real jury duty.
WHERE? The Ralph L. Carr Judicial Center, 1300 Broadway (Report behind security, outside of Room 1D), Denver 80203
WHEN? JANUARY 26TH (Tuesday). Please check in between 9:00 and 9:15 am. You will be done around noon and I will provide lunch if you can stay for just a bit.
WHY? It is an interesting way to see the inner workings of the trial process and help lawyers improve their skills so they can better advocate for clients.
HOW? RSVP and let us know you can come! Email Karen Williams at email@example.com as soon as you can or by January 19th to let us know you will be there! We will also send a couple of reminders. We do that….because we know things get lost in the shuffle.
If you don’t want to do this alone, even better. Bring a friend! Bring anyone you want. We would love it if you would forward this email to anyone you can think of that has some flexibility and willingness to help. We just need to know who is coming so we can get a count for lunch. And if you are vegan, let us know so we can accommodate you. We always try to provide a vegetarian option regardless. We will need a catering count by January 19th, so if you can respond before that, it would be really helpful.
Thanks so much for considering helping out. It really is an interesting morning and is more helpful than we can explain. If you have questions, please email Shawna Geiger at firstname.lastname@example.org and she will do her very best to answer them.
