In this fireside chat\, Professor Tom Ginsburg will share his views on recent threats to academic freedom in the United States and the work of the Forum on Free Inquiry and Expression at the University of Chicago. Professor Ginsburg is the founding director of the Forum which promotes the understanding\, practice\, and advancement of free and open discourse and provides a focal point for understanding and applying free expression\, in academia and in the broader culture\, in the United States and abroad.

The discussion will be moderated by Bruce Smith\, dean of the University of Denver Sturm College of Law\, and Kelley Loper\, director of the Ved Nanda Center for International &\; Comparative Law and co-hosted with the University of Denver Freedom of Expression Committee.

Professor Ginsburg also serves as director of the Malyi Center for the Study of Institutional and Legal Integrity. \; He holds B.A.\, J.D. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of California at Berkeley\, and co-directs the Comparative Constitutions Project\, an NSF-funded data set cataloging the world’s constitutions since 1789\, that runs the award-winning Constitute website. \; His latest book is Democracies and International Law (2021)\, winner of Best Book Prizes from the American Branch of the International Law Association and the American Society for International Law.
