Election and Campaign Finance Law |
This course examines federal and state election and campaign-finance laws. Topics to be covered include the regulatory structure around money in politics, campaign-finance reform and its constitutional limits, the Electoral College, gerrymandering, ballot initiatives, and recalls. Time permitting, we'll also cover open records laws and regulations around lobbying. The course is designed to provide students with both a strong theoretical background and an opportunity for some practical experience including drafting laws or policies and advising clients.
