Patent Prosecution and Appeals | 47xx

The course addresses the examination process and appeals, including processing and responding to Office actions (including rejections and restriction requirements, claim and specification markups, and response timeframes); conducting Examiner interviews; processing notices of allowance and issuance; managing patent maintenance; and conducting PTAB appeals. Emphasis will be placed on MPEP guidance, regulations, and case law relating to these activities. Students will draft multiple Office Action responses, a Pre-Appeal Brief Request for Review, and an Appeal Brief. Patent Drafting will be a prerequisite.
