Youth Rights Workshop | L47xx

This course will provide a unique opportunity to engage with youth in the Metro-Denver community by teaching “Know Your Rights” Workshops in partnership with the nonprofit, LYRIC (Learn Your Rights in the Community). LYRIC has designed “Know Your Rights” curriculum for high-school aged youth in schools, juvenile justice facilities, and community settings. The workshops generally focus on the 4th, 5th, and 6th amendments. In this course, after learning the relevant substantive law and the presentation format, students will teach workshops to youth in the area and conduct follow-up research as appropriate. For Spring 2021, students will do presentations remotely and also complete other youth justice projects for nonprofit partners. Students will also engage in ongoing reflection and assessment of the workshops, develop new ideas for LYRIC, and will consider more broadly the lawyer’s role in providing community education. This course fulfills the Public Service Requirement.
