Religion & Law | L47xx

This course examines the legal relationship between religion and government, paying particular attention to the history, values, and case law surrounding the Religion Clauses of the First Amendment. Students will also study the interplay between religion and the Free Speech Clause, as well as state and federal legislation, including the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA), the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act (RLUIPA), and the Affordable Care Act. Finally, students will explore several current controversies relating to religion and the law.
