Advancing Diversity and Inclusiveness in the Legal Profession | L47xx

Diversity and inclusion are hot topics in the legal industry (and all other industries) right now. Legal employers in every sector (government, law firms & departments) are implementing inclusiveness initiatives to create workplaces that leverage diversity of all kinds so they can better serve their clients. Clients don’t just want technically capable attorneys; they need attorneys who have skill-sets in diversity and inclusiveness concepts who can incorporate multiple perspectives and viewpoints into their decision-making. This interactive course will educate students about the state of diversity and inclusiveness within the legal profession, why diversity and inclusion are business imperatives, the systemic underpinnings of the lack of diversity (including the role of unconscious bias), and how to create inclusive environments for successful retention and advancement. Students will be challenged to consider different perspectives and provide thoughtful analysis on how they can incorporate diversity and inclusiveness practices within their career path and future legal organizations.
