Outdoor Recreation and Ski Law | L47xx

This course examines liability law pertaining to the outdoor industry in Colorado and the western states – including ski resorts, amusement/adventure parks, horseback riding operations, and numerous other outdoor activities. The course explores the continued interplay and conflict between the courts and the legislature on topics from minor releases to the breadth of the Ski Safety Act. Portions of the law governing the outdoor industry are extensively governed by statute and regulations (e.g., the Equine Activities Statute, the Amusement Rides Statute), while other portions are almost entirely a creature of common law (e.g., Releases). This course covers the statutory and case law applicable to outdoor recreation, and also provides background on the industry and the special issues that frequently arise from insurance to workers’ compensation.
