Lucia C. Padilla is the assistant general counsel for Denver Health, where she practices employment law. Prior to joining Denver Health's legal team, Ms. Padilla worked as an associate attorney at Isaacson Rosenbaum where she practiced civil litigation and criminal defense. Ms. Padilla left Isaacson Rosenbaum to join her father, Denver Law alumnus Ken Padilla (JD'70) at his law firm. She then accepted a position at Qwest Communications (now CenturyLink, Inc.) where she handled EEO investigations, labor disputes, and a variety of employment litigation matters. Most recently, she was the director of the Office of Investigations and Expedited Settlement at the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies' Division of Professions and Occupations, where she oversaw investigations of licensed professionals. In addition to her law practice, Ms. Padilla volunteers her time at Metro Volunteer Lawyers' family law clinic, guiding low-income individuals through their dissolution and custody proceedings. She also is committed to Denver Laws Latino alumni and played an instrumental part in planning the first ever Mexican American Law Student Association/Latino Law Student Association reunion in June 2012. As a result of her efforts and enthusiasm, Denver Law's Alumni Council recently invited Ms. Padilla to become a member of the council. Ms. Padilla has sat on various boards including the Colorado Bar Associations Board of Governors, the Denver Bar Association's Board of Trustees, the Denver Bar Association's Young Lawyer's Division, and Bayaud Enterprises, a non-profit organization that provides employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities. She is a mentor in the Denver Bar Association's mentoring program and co-chairs the Colorado Lawyer's Committee's Hate Crimes Education Task Force. In 2011 the Denver Bar Association honored Ms. Padilla with its Young Lawyer of the Year award, and in 2012 the Colorado Lawyer's Committee nominated her for its Individual of the Year award.
