| Positive and Negative comments about the professor: | Positive and negative comments about the course materials: |
| Wonderful class! I have a whole new appreciation for legal writing and "what lawyers do!" I really gained a wealth of knowledge in this class. It's amazing how much work goes into client communications. | I thoroughly enjoyed the new online text. I think it will be very beneficial for students going forward. My only suggestion would be to include some more sample documents for the settlement letter. Perhaps a settlement letter with a "dollar amount" could be used as an example. |
| The only thing I would have changed was the format for the syllabus. The professor explained it well enough to the class so I don't believe anyone missed an assignment but it was difficult in its organization for what I had expected. | |
| I have greatly enjoyed Professor Thomson's classes. I appreciate his teaching methods and enjoy reading his feedback on assignments. | |
| This was one of the most interesting courses that I have taken yet in the MSLA program. This class made such an impression on me that I am considering law school after my MSLA program. It would really benefit the MSLA program if professor Thomson taught more than just this class. | |
| I thoroughly enjoyed his "live" classroom opportunities to engange with him and my classmates. I also appreciated the two telephone meetings he offered as a one-on-one opportunity to discuss coursework and/or other class related issues. He did a terrific job on our class' scrapbook page, wherein we could see photos and resumes of our fellow students... this was a great feature of this on-line venue, since we do not have the advantage of face-to-face meetings! I had the opportunity to have Professor Thomas teach another MSLA course...I found this experience to be closer connected with him and more engaged!!! | My main difficulty with this couse was learning citation on my own...I feel that in-class, hands-on with support environment may lend to an easier absorption of the materials and processes. I found the Teaching Law on-line text to be informative! I very much appreciated the power point presentations as a means to "pull together" the voluminous reading materials and concepts. |
| Professor Thomson is a very passionate, educated, and well organized teacher. He conveys his knowledge effectively and efficiently to the students, while maintaining a friendly class atmosphere. He is quick to respond to the barrage of student questions, both in class as well as over email. He is prepared for class and wastes no time in comprehensively moving through the material. Simply put, Professor Thomson is a fantastic teacher. | A text book is all but defined as hard to read and nearly impossible to navigate. However, Professor Thomsons choice of the text from Teachinglaw.com was a brilliant one. This text thoroughly covers the topics described in the course description. It is easy to reference and navigate and discusses matters in great detail without losing the reader. The supplemental readings provided by Professor Thomson were also a great help in highlighting the course objectives. The change of characters for teaching purposes was a great way to keep our attention. |
| Professor Thomson did an outstanding job in teaching this course! He effectively used several different types of media to make sure we understood the class topics. He is extremely organized and probably one of the best professors I have had in both undergraduate and graduated school. Great Job! | Course materials were excellent. The powerpoints with vocal lectures attached were just like being in a classroom. The synchronous, on-line classes were quite effective as we were all able to participate by offering feedback and asking questions. Excellent class materials, well organized, and served their purpose well! |
