| Positive and Negative comments about the professor: | Positive and negative comments about the course materials: |
| I found working in groups to be beneficial to my learning. My once critism is that switching partners and issues for the brief was not as benefical as switching partners other times. | |
| I learned a lot from this class. I feel much more confident in writing and hopefull will be able to apply this to real life expereience. I appreciate every critisim that I received. Thank you for everything. | |
| Professor Thomson is my favorite professor. He's always willing to help you out and explain difficult concepts. Great professor! | Reading materials were beneficial. The writing and research books were extremely helpful. Welford also had some good examples. |
| Great course made great by a great professor. | None |
| Great class, great professor. A model for all other faulty at DU. | |
| Best professor I had this year. Thank you. | |
| I love Professor Thomson! | |
| Professor Thomson is one of the most dedicated instructors I have ever encountered. He is always available to help with anything that comes up. | The only issue with the course materials I found was that the Welford book had an appellate brief which was somewhat different from the one we wrote for class. |
| I loved Professor Thomson's encouragement and positive attitude. The first year of law school is often confusing and frustrating and he is the one professor I have had that has been clear on what was expected and who treated all students with great respect. | None |
| Prof. Thomson made me feel like he really had a genuine interest in me as far this class was concerned and me as a person and me as a lawyer. I just really felt he offered an emotional connection rare among faculty. | The book was relevanta and thomson effectively used outside sources to bring the material to life. |
| LP was a great class, taught by a great professor. Prof. Thomson did a superb job at introducing the materials and encouraging us to continue developing our legal writing and oral argument skills. This was quite possibly the best preparatory class that I have had at DU law thus far, and most of that is due to the excellent teaching skills of Prof. Thomson. | |
| Professor Thomson is genuinely caring and while at first may seem to be like a dull Ben Stein, he is really a cool guy and a great Professor of Law. | I wish there were better examples than Wellford gives |
| Professor Thomson is you ally as a law school student. He truly cares about you and about your learning. He is a great resource not only for information pertaining to his class but for anything you might be curious about. He is an effective teacher. The class is hard, but it is reasonable and a good learning experience. Prof. Thomson will take good care of you. | The Wellford text is a nightmare, but I am not sure if a better book is available. The photocopied model writings were more helpful. |
| Professor Thomson really cares about his student's progress and is readily available outside of class. He is an excellent LP prof. | |
| Prof. Thomson is one of the most dedicated professors I have ever had. He is dedicated to his students, to the betterment of the profession, and to challenging every level of writer. The only drawback to his teaching approach is the massive amount of collaborative work; it doesn't always take a village. It can be a very maddening and frustrating experience. That being said, his open door policy is very liberal and I have throughly enjoyed every conversation I've had about law with him. He is a great resource, and I look forward to having another class with him. | Robin Wellford needs to be removed from this course and never, ever, returned. There are much more engaging, useful and helpful texts that could be useful in teaching this course. |
| Professor Thomson is simultaneously academically astute and contemporaneously humorous and the combination makes for thought provoking classes balanced with a bit of real world raillery. One of the best quotes I have ever heard from a teacher was his,"I am preparing you for your future not my past". | |
| Prof Thomson is a great person who actually cares about his students learning and understanding. He was always very helpful and more professors should follow his example and style of teaching. It works wonders when the student knows that the professor wants to help him/her learn. I really appreciated his ability to be personable and I liked how he never made anyone feel stupid when we asked questions. | |
