| Positive and Negative comments about the professor: | Positive and negative comments about the course materials: |
| I thought the course was very good. It will be very helpful and useful for everyones future. Professor Thomson kept the class very informative and light hearted. There was a lot of information to take in, but he always made it fun to be there. | Sometimes it was a little hard not have more examples of the format. Welford sometimes was not clear enought to what the right way is. I know there are many ways to write it, but I think more examples would have been helpful. Seeing a completed memo that a student wrote on a different subject would be very beneficial. |

| Thomson puts the most work into class preparation that I have ever seen. A really dedicated professor. | |
| I thought it was a great course, and Professor Thomson did a great job teaching it. Most valuable and enjoyable course thus far. | I thought it was a great course, and Professor Thomson did a great job teaching it. Most valuable and enjoyable course thus far. |
| Always very very prepared for class. Thoroughly organized. | Needs to be 3 credits for the time you spend on it. |
| Professor Thomson is a great teacher and a really, really nice guy. I liked the pacing of the class, how we started at the beginning. | The Wellford text was difficult for me to follow. |
| Occasionally tough to balance assignments (well, with as much as I would like to put into them) with other law school stuff, but that is probably normal and unavoidable. | Presentations & advice before the final memo all very helpful. |
| I feel the group memo had too much weight. I think it is unfair to put so much weight on a grade that a student doesn't have total control over. the group for my second memo was the most miserable experience I have ever had. It showed in the grade and I just feel that it is unfair that some people may get competent partners while others get ones who have no idea what they are doing and don't care and their grade will suffer significantly from it. | |
| Very helpful and I can tell he cares about students learning and doing well in law school. | |
| Prof. Thomson is very helpful and makes sure he is available to help students individually | The research and writing books were only rarely used primarily as a reference. |
| Mr. Thomson seems to be invested in teaching this material. He is highly organized and one of the few prof.'s who tend to think of students as on their level. Great work T-Man. | Actually, the material has been the funnest part of law school. Hands on and worthwhile seeming. |
| I felt that too much time was spent on administrative matters. There are many important things to be learned in this class and I think class time could be used covering the substantive issues instead. | |
| Prof. Thomson was always willing to answer questions outside of class and had a great open door policy. Prof. Thomson would always make time to help out. I also really appreciate Prof. Thomson's sense of humor. I really look forward to taking another class from Prof. Thomson. | I think moving the blue book excersises to an earlier point in the semester, because I found that I formed some bad habits that were difficult to break. |
| Very good teacher. Very helpful. He is obviously very knowledgable of the subject matter, and very comfortable speaking in a classroom environment. I very much look forward to LP next semester, primarily because of Professor Thomson. | The book being used is alright, but not that captivating. Hard to follow at points, but sufficient to present course subject matter. |
| Professor Thomson puts forth fanatstic presentations and includes a variety of mediums through which course materials are learned. On the one hand Professor Thomson embues in the class an appreciation for the traditional way of understanding what it take sto become a lawayer; and on the other hand we have an oppportunity to learn from a professor that has completely embraced the modern approaches to research and communication. Sometimes I am inspired when I walk out of the classroom. | |
| Prof. Thomson is very willing to help and always willing to open his office door to students. It's always great to know there is a resource at school that will help me whenever I need it. However, the lectures are very scripted and sometimes I think he is just in recitiation mode, which is not very engaging. | PLEASE stop the powerpoints! They are not engaging and although they are helpful at times, by about week three you start to tune them out. The Wellford text needs to go; I know the authors of our other two text books write one called "Just Memo;" we should look into that, because Wellford does not communicate well to a wide audience. |
