Positive and Negative comments about the professor:Positive and negative comments about the course materials:
Great course and great professor. Challenging, but enlightening

Great teacher.

Thank you, Professor Thomson, for caring so much about us.
Professor Thomson put forth more effort and dedication than any professor I have ever experienced. His knowledge of the material is boundless and always current. He is focused on his students, ensuring that they succeed and that they care about the class. Professor Thomson is always available, and time spent in his office never felt stressful or like it was time wasted. Thank you, for your our stellar sense of organization, and how you put your students first.   This course is what you wish to take from it. The readings are helpful, but not the be-all-end-all. Not doing them won't sink you as far as the class, but they help fill all of the gaps.
Excellent organization. Professor Thomson really cares about his students. Thanks for a great year!  The Wellford book explained legal writing conventions well & provided good examples. It's helpful to have more as well, so Professor Thomson's handouts proved very useful.

Prof. Thomson was an amazing teacher. I feel honored to have been taught by such a wonderful individual. The oral argument was the greatest experience in law school so far. It was something I was terrified of beforehand, but I really enjoyed it and am glad for having the opportunity.  The books are excellent.
Thomson was an amazing professor. He was motivational, helpful, and always attentive to the class' needs.
It is refreshing to have a professor who seems to care about the development of our character as much as our intellect.  Writing a brief together is a laborious process that grated against my rugged individualism.
Professor Thomson is the best professor. He cares so deeply for his students. I feel muct more prepared to practice law after having a class with him. I would reccomend that anyone who is thinking about it to take his class.  Great class. Really prepared me to write in the practice of law.
Professor Thomson is wonderful, I can't think of a negative thing to say. He is available to his students and always treats us with courtesy and consideration. I would recommend him highly to any incoming student.  Sometimes the Wellford book can be very confusing, and the Bluebook exercises on Lexis aren't very helpful. However, the podcasts and in class work was very helpful and the collaborative exercises were a good learning tool both for the writing and for practicing law later.
professor thomson is one of the most engaging teachers i have had, and his door is always open to his students. i would strongly recomend taking one of his courses  the book was somewhat helpful but professor thomson covers all the material very thoroughly in class.
An excellent professor. Highly organized, demanding, and professional.  Thomson, follow your own advice: focus on what is important and get rid of the unnecessary paperwork of portfolios.
Prof. Thomson finds great joy in teaching and is extremely knowledgable and well-versed in his field. He has the utmost passion for his job and is extremely accomodating with his students' needs. Expect lots of paper handouts, which are not always useful (I think he and Prof. Marsh are responsible for the deplorable state of the rainforest), and a fondness for technological mediums like pod and vodcasts.  I didn't find the book all that helpful; some sections, admittedly were useful, but by and large I read only about half the materials in the blue book. The two shrinkwrapped books that we were to purchase at the beginning of first semester are still shrinkwrapped.
Professor Thomson is one of the best professors that I have taken a course from not only in law school, but in my entire course of higher education. Professor Thomson was always willing to meet with us outside of class and was always extremely responsive to emails. He motivated me to do my best in the course and this carried over to my other courses. I would definately enjoy taking another course from Professor Thomson in the future.   The course materials really helped me to develop my legal writing. Professor Thomson gave us tons of handouts and examples which were useful. Also, this semester there were less power points, which I found helpful to hold my attention in class. Overall, the texts were helpful in giving direction - particularly the Wellford text. The handouts and examples were outstanding.
Professor Thomson is great. He is incredibly devoted to his students and willing to extend every bit of assistance. If you put in the work, Professor Thomson will more than meet you half way. Law school is what you make of it. LP can be frustrating. After listening to other student's experience with LP, I am confident that Professor Thomson makes this required course as agreeable as possible.  Collaborative work, for the final brief, is horrendous. I did not personally have a problem with my partner. However, it would have been much less stressful and much easier if we had been allowed to work alone for the final brief the same way we were for the final memo last semester.
Professor Thomson is great. He obviously cares a lot about his job and his students and puts a lot of effort into the course. All 1L's complain about LP because it is a ton of work and it is frustrating, but I think those of us who had Thomson were happier than everyone else. One thing I thought was problematic was all the partner- and issue- switching. It was really confusing and some people even ended up doing the wrong thing. Next year I think Thomson should put this all in writing and hand it out, rather than just writing it on the board once and then erasinng it. I also thought that the beginning of the semester was a little rushed with one short assignment after another.   The Welford book is good as a reference but it didn't really work as nightly reading. And honestly, Casemap is horrible. All of the merging and creating replicas is just confusing, and it doesn't always work right anyway. Plus, from what I have heard very few lawyers and firms actuall use it. You could get the same effect using any other spreadsheet software, like Excel.
He is a wonderful professor who creates a family in his classes. He is a mentor and an excellent professor. Thanks for all your hard work!

Great advise--great use of quotes. Writing is a tough subject matter to teach, Prof. T did a good job; however, our class had no chemastry and that was dissapointing. Also, T should becarefull of assuming boxing students in to certain rolls by assuming he knows them. Last, three courses is too draining on a professor.
I'm sure that every student in our class thinks Professor Thomson is the best professor. And, I strongly agree with that. He has been so much willing to assist students all the time. And he has been so much responsive to every students. Again, I want to say "Thank you" to Professor Thomson.   I think Lawyering Process is one of the most valuable courses in our law school. I'm sure that the experience from this course will greatly help me in the future.
