| Positive and Negative comments about the professor: | Positive and negative comments about the course materials: |
| Very organized and very willing to help outside of class...his door was always open and he was prompt to respond to email requests | |
| Professor Thomson was a great teacher! He was one of my favorites! He made class fun and he was always very organized. I enjoyed all the extra things he prepared for class, like the citation jeopardy and the dart board. He is an excellent teacher! | I found the book helpful but very limiting. I wish it had more examples with longer memos and multiple issue memos. Professor Thomson did an excellent job preparing the power point presentations and making them available on line. |
| Very encouraging as a professor. He is very knowledgable and his experience is of benefit. I appreciate the personal investment he put into the class and to me as an individual. He is receptive to feedback and addressing concerns. | The coursework for this class is challenging and time consuming. I would appreciate more guidance and feedback. Additionally, I would appreciate more opportunities to utilize the feedback to refine the product, instead of immediately moving on to a new project. The class is great for seeing the practical side of being a lawyer, but there is not enough time to reap a full benefit. |
| By far the best LP professor here at DU! Always organized and in a great mood, he's willing to help you either through email or in his office. He always motitivated me to do my best, and he has a great sense of humour. | |
| Professor Thomson always demonstrates to me (and the class) that he loves teaching. He always made time available for me and other students. Prof. Thomson made each and every class a positive experience, and I feel very privileged to be a student for his LP class. I truly apreiciate how lucky DU Law School is to have him as a professor. | |
| I appreciated the time and effort Professor Thomson took in preparing materials for this class. I truly feel that I had the best LP professor. | |
| He is a wonderful and engaging teacher. He is always prepared and more than happy to meet with you after class. Sometimes the course can get frusturating, but he always got me through the rough patches. I highly recommend him as a teacher. | Wellford and Just Writing are great support. |
| excellent professor. good man. wise about learning styles. comfortable to talk to. | i like the CD. Good show. |
| This should be a 3 credit class. Also, during office visits it would be helpful to get more concrete feedback. He always answered my questions very directly, but it would have been helpful to go in and have him look over my memo as a whole. This has nothing to do with Thomson but its very difficult when the teaching methods of all of the LP differ so much. Thomson made the transition to law school SO much easier. He was the only teacher, after the first class, that I could tell was 'fighting' for me and would be there for anything I needed. I would never hesitate to go to Thomsons office hours in the next two and a half years. What a wonderful man. His dedication is more then visable and the respect students give him ir rare. | Helpful! While I hated taking the grammer test, it sure did help!! |
| Professor Thomson was great from the start. He is extremely organized, articulate, approachable and nice. From day one I was comfortable asking him for help within the context of this class and outside of it. His feedback was as direct, clear and concise as the nature of this course allows. I feel that my writing has improved under his direction, with the minimum amount of frustration. I sincerely appreciated how available and welcoming Professor Thomson was with respect to my questions. | I thought Wellford was fairly informative and good to pick up for quick reference. |
| Professor Thomson's class was inspiring and practical. He was always available to meet with me and answer questions. He's a great role model for a class requiring stressful assignments. | The course needs to be 3 credits - at least. The material is practical and I like the CaseMap. I think I would have enjoyed more examples of how to correctly do a memo. |
| He is a great teacher. He was very responsive to questions. He also listned to my concerns with my writing problems and helped me solve them. He made class exciting. He explained things in a way to understand. | |
| Prof. Thomson is really well-organized. I really enjoy his teaching style, b/c he requires you to do a lot of independant thinking. Also, he is always ready and willing to meet w/you outside of LP. | Don't fret. You might not think the books are useful, but you will need all of them for when you write your office memo. The course needs to be more worth more credit hours so we can have more class time!! |
| Prof. Thomson is a dedicated professional. I feel that he raised the bar in class on how to conduct yourself, reminding us that we will soon be in a workworld where formality is important. I also appreciated the fact that he would take time to refocus us on where we are acutally heading with the whole process (law school, not class). With the stress of school, it was refreshing to step outside of it for a momement and look at the big picture. My only negative comment is that I would have like to have written more. I learn best by repitition and felt that more drafts of the memo leading up to the final would have been beneficial. I also would have liked another credit, since the course is time consuming. | Wellford was OK. Its examples were somewhat boring, but it conveys its points clearly. |
| Prof. Thomson is a dedicated and effective professor. Some of my responses above are less than enthusiastic because I disagree with the manner in which this course is taught. The times that I really learned in this course were when someone else read what I wrote and provided feedback on it. This occurred in the group project, the meetings with Prof. Thomson, and the writing clinic. When I was by myself reading and re-reading my asssignments, I didn't learn near as much as when someone gave me feedback. Therefore, I think the course should be taught as a workshop. It would have been really useful to go through my writing assignments with someone line-by-line, phrase-by-phrase, word-by-word. I felt the classtime was often not used in a manner where I left thinking I was a little better writer than when I came in. Some of the things we did in class such as applying temporary tattoos, throwing darts at a board, or talking about fruit were a total waste of time. I still don't feel like I know exactly what I did or didn't do on my memo that would make it better. I worked very hard in this class, but I am not sure there was much payback. |
