This is a great and useful class with a great Professor!
Prof. Thomson is one of the best (and nicest) professors at DU. I recommend that everyone take a course from him before graduating - esp. the discovery practicum. This course has been invaluable to me. As a law clerk at my firm, I am given a lot of discovery documents to draft and without this course I would not have a point of reference.  The book and the assignments are quite good, and relevant. I did not find the use of CaseMap helpful to this course at all.
I love Professor Thomson! He is one of the best professors at DU. I highly recommend this course if you are interested in Civil Ligitation. Learning the rules of Discovery is invaluable. This was a very practical course and very hands-on. I loved that we got to take depositions with a real court reporter! This class was excellent!   Good book, easy to read and follow. The book corresponded to what we were doing in class.

The only thing I regret is that I did not wait to take Admin. Law since Professor Thomson is teaching it next semester. This is the first law class in 2 years that I have taken seriously. The assignments are straightforward and actually kind of fun. I am actually interested in litigation now even though I was always adamant about not becoming a litigator. Professor Thomson is uber-organized and a great person--I enjoyed all of his "war stories." Take this class!  The book was very straightforward, helpful, and an easy-to-carry paperback.

For questions 4 - 18 if there was an option more favorable to Prof. Thomson than 'strongly agree' I would have chosen it.   The use of the various tools was very beneficial to my learning in this class. The student presentations, File-n-Serve, the course website, and class teaching were integrated very well.
I was amazed at the amount of work that had apprently gone into the organization of this course - and it wasn't readily apparent but only became so clear as the course progressed. I thought Prof. Thomson did an incredible job with the course, the content, the students, the assignments, etc.  My only less than stellar thoughts were that the text readings could be much more condensed and less dry, and that there could be more direction as to examples of documents and such. Overall, I truely enjoyed this course and feel that I learned much more about the FRCP than I have in any other class, and have gained VERY valuable knowledge of and insight into discovery in real (or as real as students can get) practice.
Excellent professor. Smart, funny. A lot was added to the Discovery Practicum class from his stories/experiences. I would highly recommend this professor. He cares about what he is teaching and wants his students to benefit from his knowledge. Looked forward to class. (Wish I would have been assigned to his Lawyering Process class as a first year.)  Really good book for theories/concepts. Did not have a lot of examples of document types, however, many multiple sources for those may be found on Lexis and the internet. Not a detractor from the course at all.
