| Positive and Negative comments about the professor: | Positive and negative comments about the course materials: |
| I would recommend to take this course to anyone interested in litigation. Very well-organized and well taught. Professor Thomson is very polite, responsive to students' comments and questions, always willing to assist with any problems. He's very accessible and responds very quickly to students' emails. He's also polite and treats students with respect. The course is not hard, daily assignments, however, they are fairly simple and very good learning tool. If you interested in learning pre-trial litigation, take this course. | The book is good. Professors supplemental handouts and CD were excellent! |
| Professor Thomson is very knowledgable about the Discovery process. His experiences he shared offered a good insight into the real world. I thought he was a great professor. | The book was easy to follow and read. |
| Very good, useful course. | A lot of handouts, some more useful than others. Book wasn't exceptional, but fairly solid. |
| Professor Thomson is a great teacher and a great asset to DU. He is meticulously prepared for class, and gets everything done we are supposed to get done. At the same time, he is flexible in conversations and to a certain extent goes with the flow of the class. I would highly recommend him to anyone for any class he teaches at all. First years are lucky to get him for LP. | There were three types of course materials: 1) book, 2) handouts; 3) powerpoint. The book was probably the least helpful, not because the book was not well written, but more because Professor Thomson covered everything we needed to know in his lectures. The handouts were moderately helpful, and more of a supplement if we wanted to learn more than just the basics. The powerpoints were always very well organized and were probably the most helpful material. In sum, make sure to review the powerpoints and skim the book if you do not understand a lecture. |
| The assigned on Tuesday/ due on Thurday was a bit difficult to handle when working full-time; if you work during the week, think about maybe taking this class during the Fall or Spring semesters. Still, Professor Thomson was very flexible, and endeavored to accomodate everyone equally; I appreciate his fairness. Prof. Thomson -- Thank you for such an engaging and interesting class! I enjoyed the semester. | |
| Professor Thomson is a model of preparation, organization, and quiet inspiration. It's obvious that he cares deeply about the law, about teaching, and about preparing students to be knowledgable and ethical members of the profession. | The textbook was very good, especially the discussion questions after each section (which were more difficult and stimulated more discussion than other textbooks I've encountered). Lots of additional materials were handed out in each class, which was sometimes very useful, other times just interesting. |
| Prof. Thomson, was great, he shared his personal experiences, informed us what the professional standards are for discovery, and discussed abuses in the discovery process. His power points were very good and kept the class focused on the issues relevant to class discussion, but Prof Thomson also let the class stray into areas where discovery and other issues overlap. I cannot emphasis enough how great it is to have an organized presentation. Wish he had been my LP teacher. | One of the best classes I have taken, I was very nervous at first regarding the assignments because I'd never done interrogatories etc... I am no longer nervous about discovery documents. BUT the best thing about the class was the way we learned the Fed. Rules of Civ Pro that deal with discovery...much better than my CP class. |
| Professor Thomson is one of the best teachers at the Sturm College of Law. He is very passionate about his work and demands a passionate committment by his students. His practical experience was extremely beneficial in teaching discovery. | I think this is one of the best courses a law student can take to prepare them for practicing law. Since most cases don't reach trial, most litigators will spend a majority of their time in discovery. Applying the FRCP, concerning discovery, will help prepare future lawyers for the real world. |
| HEY YOU take this class it will definitely be worth it. Professor Thomson is the man with the plan and he will guide you through the discovery process like a light house guiding a ship lost out on sea. There are a lot of assignments that must be completed, but this class fulfills the writing requirement and there is no final. I am glad I took this class from a grade A professor, this class definitely has prepared me for the real world. | Everything should be on the syllabus including cases that we must read. |
