Public Service Requirement
for all students beginning with 2004 incoming class |
| |
A
student is eligible to commence satisfying the Public Service
Requirement only after the student has completed 30 academic
credit hours. It is strongly recommended that each student
satisfy the Public Service Requirement before the end of the
next to last semester of law school. Ways of satisfying
the Public Service Requirement are:
- An internship for credit in a government, judicial, non-profit
setting or in a private law firm doing pro bono work under
the auspices of the Internship office or the Environmental/Natural
Resources Law Internship Program (ENRLIP).
- A Sturm College of Law student law clinic under the auspices
of the Student Law Office or the Environmental Law Clinical
Partnership.
- A pre-approved Sturm College of Law course which has a practical
public service component under the auspices of a faculty member.
- An approved Public Interest Practicum and Public Interest
Practicum Online Seminar under the auspices of the Director
of Public Interest.

Upper
Level Writing Requirement
for all students beginning with 2003 incoming
class |
|
Effective
with the class entering the JD program in fall 2003 and thereafter,
students must complete the upper level writing requirement to
graduate. The requirement provides that students must write a
substantial paper or papers, receive feedback, and undertake at
least one mandatory rewrite. There are a number of options available
to students for meeting this requirement, including: 1) a seminar
designated as an upper level writing seminar; 2) a directed research
paper with a faculty member; 3) a clinical assignment; 4) an advanced
writing course; and 5) any paper produced for credit that is certified
by a faculty member as meeting the upper level writing requirement.
