Gale
Norton, JD ’78
Gale Norton, a lifelong conservationist, public
servant and advocate for bringing common sense solutions to environmental
policy, was sworn in as the 48th Secretary of the U.S. Department
of the Interior in January 2001. The first woman to head the 154-year-old
department, Norton has made what she calls the Four C's the cornerstone
of her tenure: Consultation, Communication, and Cooperation, all
in the service of Conservation.

Tom Graf, JD ’93
Tom Graf is an attorney in the Office of the Regional
Solicitor for the United States Department of the Interior in
Lakewood, Colo. He is the lead attorney on legal matters surrounding
several controversial species either listed or proposed for listing
under the Endangered Species Act (ESA), including the Preble’s
meadow jumping mouse and the mountain plover. |

Kent Holsinger has worked as a real estate broker, a law clerk
for the U.S. Attorney’s Office, an intern for U.S. District
Judge Lewis T. Babcock, a legal intern for U.S. Senator Wayne
Allard and legislative assistant to Congressman Bob Schaffer
in Washington, D.C. He has published articles on the legal aspects
of business planning, politics and the media, water quality
and water rights.

& Training
From 1990 to 1992, Eric Nelson served as environment counsel
for the National Association of Attorneys General in Washington,
D.C., and from 1987 to 1989, he was a deputy attorney general
with the Idaho Attorney General’s Office. He was a contributing
author and editor of State Attorneys General Guide to Environmental
Law, National Association of Attorneys General (1990); and coauthor
of Nelson and Fransen, Playing with a Full Deck: State Use of
Common Law Theories to Complement Relief Available Through CERCLA,
25 Idaho L. Rev. 493 (1989).

Director of the Indigenous Rights Project at the University of
Denver’s International Human Rights Advocacy Center, Sue
