Vote here for the Spring 2012 SBA Awards!

 

Sturm Faculty Excellence Awards (2):

  • Best Professor Award – A cash award of $5,000 for the faculty member voted by the students to be the best professor. In addition to classroom skills, students voting on this award should consider the professor’s mentoring skills and availability for student advising.
  • Best Advisor Award – A cash award of $5,000 for the faculty member voted by the students to be the best advisor for law school and career planning.

SBA Overall Achievement Awards (4):

  • Most Outstanding Administrator – This award goes to an administrator who exhibits an overall commitment to the support of students during and after their law school career in an effective, efficient, and friendly manner. This award goes to an administrator who addresses students and student issues in a friendly, courteous, and respectful way. This award goes to an administrator who is most responsive to student needs and issues.
  • Most Outstanding Faculty Member – This award goes to a member of the faculty, tenured or non-tenured, who possesses an overall ability to teach in an engaging and entertaining manner, mentor students in an area of interest, push students to their greatest potential, and serve as a role model to the student body and the legal profession.
  • Most Outstanding Graduating Student – This award goes to a graduating student of the academic year who excels overall in exemplifying skill as a strong leader, support for academic progress and integrity, commitment to public interest, involvement within and outside of the law school, and overall advocacy for students and student programming.
  • Most Outstanding Student Organization Award – This award goes to the most outstanding student organization at the DU Sturm College of Law this year. Student organizations nominated for the Most Outstanding Student Organization award should exemplify excellence in addressing important student issues through programming, collaborative efforts, activism, and leadership.

SBA Student Achievement Awards (8):

Note: Excluding the awards specific to 1L / 2L, Dual Degree, Evening and Legal Masters students, all awards listed below are open to the entire SBA.

  • Outstanding 1L Day Student – This award goes to a current 1L day student who exemplifies a commitment to achieving a legal education while actively participating in the academic and social progress of the law school and inspiring others to do the same. Only current 1L day students are eligible for this award.
  • Outstanding 2L Day Student – This award goes to a current 2L student who exemplifies a commitment to achieving a legal education while actively participating in the academic and social progress of the law school and inspiring others to do the same. Only current 2L students are eligible for this award.
  • Outstanding Evening Students – This award goes to a two current evening students who exemplifies excellence in pursuing a legal education while participating in the academic and social progress within and outside of the law school. Consideration should be given to the fact that an evening student is faced with the unique challenge of balancing part-time education with full-time life demands such as employment and/or family. Only current evening students are eligible for this award.
  • Outstanding Legal Masters – This award goes to a current legal masters student who exemplifies a commitment to achieving a legal graduate degree while actively participating in the academic and social progress of the law school and inspiring others to do the same. Only current legal masters students are eligible for this award.
  • Outstanding Academic – This award goes to a student who exemplifies a strong commitment to academic achievement through the encouragement of activities that expand the educational experience while maintaining a studious demeanor and obtaining high achieving academic marks.
  • Outstanding Barrister – This award goes to a student who exemplifies strong oral advocacy skills in and out of the courtroom.
  • Daniel S. Hoffman Award for Outstanding Student Leadership – This award goes to a student who exemplifies a desire to be involved in the law school and encourage progress for a better learning environment among students, faculty, and staff. This award goes to a student who exemplifies leadership not only within a student organization but within the law school at large. This student should be a leader within an organization that has encouraged active participation of its members, better student programming, and leadership of the organization in the law school and legal community environments.
  • Outstanding Professionalism – This award goes to a student who exemplifies respect and courteousness in dealing with students, faculty, administration, and staff.

SBA Faculty Achievement Awards (3):

  • Bloody Hatchet Award – This award goes to the professor with the hardest curriculum and grading standards.
  • Mentorship Award – This award goes to the professor who exemplifies not only excellence in classroom teaching but also a positive attitude towards mentoring students outside of the classroom.
  • Most Engaging Professor – This award goes to the professor who exhibits an ability to engage his/her students in the study of law in the classroom.
