President: John Sandberg
John Sandberg is a 2L and the President of the Business Law Society. One of the driving factors in John’s decision to attend law school was the potential to use a law degree in the business world. As such, John is now pursuing a career in corporate law. He hopes that the Business Law Society will serve as a valuable outlet for other DU Law students interested in business law as well.
In addition to his role in the Business Law Society, John is a contributor to the Race to the Bottom blog and a member of the DU Law Student Ambassador program. Outside the classroom, John enjoys reading and talking about politics and U.S. history, cheering for the Chicago Cubs, and boxing. Prior to law school, John earned his B.A. in political science from the University of Notre Dame.
Vice President: Courtney Bartkus
Courtney Bartkus is a third year law student at the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law. She studied political science and economics at the University of Colorado at Boulder, where she graduated with Latin Honors. Her professional experience is in banking and consumer finance. She is Special Projects Editor of the Race to the Bottom Blog and is part of the Corporate and Commercial Law Program. Outside of work and school, she enjoys spending time with family, running, hiking in Breckenridge, reading finance books, and traveling.
Secretary: Hillary Sullivan
Hillary Sullivan is a second year law student at the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law. She is a native of Houston, Texas and graduated from Tulane University with a Bachelors degree in Business Law and a Marketing Minor.
Prior to attending law school, Hillary worked for a local wine business in New Orleans, LA and travelled. In addition to contributing to The Race to the Bottom, Hillary is also a staff editor on the Denver Law Review, a competition member of the DU Law VIS Moot Team, and serves a President of the Jewish Law Students Association. Hillary has a variety of interests in the legal field, which include corporate, transactional, and international law.
Outside of law school, Hillary enjoys golfing, painting, and spending time outdoors.
Treasurer: Samit Bhalala
Samit Bhalala is a JD/MBA candidate at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law and Daniels College of Business. With an interest in corporate law, Samit focused his undergraduate studies at the University of Arizona in Finance and has had a variety of experiences in the corporate setting. In his free time, Samit can be found watching ESPN’s SportsCenter or playing basketball on one of Denver’s many courts.
VP of Marketing: Ashley K. Lloyd
Ashley Kincaid Lloyd is honored to be the 2015-2016 VP of Marketing for the Business Law Society. She is a 2L student at the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law. She is the ABA Representative to the Student Bar Association and a Staff Editor on the Corporations and Securities blog http://www.theRacetotheBottom.org. She is pursuing a Corporate and Commercial Law Certificate from Sturm College of Law.
Ashley is a native of Texas. She graduated from Victoria University of Wellington in Wellington, New Zealand with a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy and religious studies, and completed a post-graduate Honours Degree in philosophy. Ashley’s interests in law include: business, international business, compliance, securities, and capital formation. Outside of law school, Ashley loves going to rock concerts, occasionally painting with oils, and exploring Denver with her husband.
2L Reps: Dana Miniat, Mackenzie Ludwig, Cheryl Moffett
Dana Miniat studied finance in undergrad at Southern Methodist University. She is interested in corporate and securities law.
Mackenzie is a 2L Representative for the Business Law Society. Having been born into a family of lawyers, Mackenzie decided from a young age she would also pursue a career in the law. This past summer she clerked for a large corporation and hopes to continue exploring the various facets of corporate law through the Business Law Society.
In addition, Mackenzie is Treasurer of Moot Court Board and Secretary for the National Women Law Students Organization. Before moving to Denver, she earned a B.A. in psychology at the University of Oregon. In her free time, Mackenzie loves to dance, paint, and watch Oregon Duck football.
Cheryl has 20 years of executive level accounting and financial management experience; public accounting and private industry in the engineering, financial, and information technology service sectors. Cheryl also has a Master of Science in Accounting. Cheryl is focused on obtaining the corporate and commercial certificate while pursuing her Juris Doctor at Sturm College of Law.
1L Day Reps: Donovan Gibbons, Jen Koss, John Gronka
Donovan is a Colorado Native, born and raised in Fort Collins. He attended the University of Colorado in Boulder and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy with a focus on Law & Society. Donovan is interested in pursuing a career in corporate law. When Donovan is not hitting the books, he enjoys hitting weights at the gym or getting out of town to experience the great Colorado outdoors.
Jen Koss is a 1L at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law. She is from New Jersey and studied political science and pre-law at Coastal Carolina University, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. She is interested in corporate and commercial law. In addition to her role in the Business Law Society, Jen is a member of the DU Law Ambassador Program. Outside the classroom, she enjoys hiking, lacrosse, yoga, golfing, and watching Philadelphia sports teams.
John Gronka is a native of Georgia. John studied at the University of Colorado where he earned degrees in English and Philosophy. John is interested in Corporate Law, Contracts, and Mergers and Acquisitions. During his time as an undergraduate, John helped open a microbrewery in Colorado. John is a “Foodie” and regularly enjoys trying new restaurants, cuisines, and craft beers, of course.
1LE Rep: Tess Wilson
Tess is a 1LE student and works at a local law firm practicing insurance coverage and defense. Originally from Minnesota, Tess moved to Denver six years ago. She received an Associates in Paralegal Studies from the Community College of Denver and a Bachelors in Political Science from the University of Colorado at Denver. Tess is interested in various aspects of business law including, formation, securities, and international business. In her free time, Tess enjoys relaxing by the pool, watching Minnesota Vikings football games and traveling abroad.
