ADR in Family Law

Family law has been one of the early adopters of ADR. Over the past 30 years, family law has evolved to include less adversarial and more collaborative approaches. This development continues with states increasingly adopting programs that test and implement ADR methods.1 In Colorado, the legislature and judiciary have consistently demonstrated a clear preference for ADR, ordering mediation or arbitration as a desirable first step to resolution.2
