Stephen M. (Pete) Peterson is the Managing Director of the Law Firm Business Institute, which is a specialty practice of the CPA firm of Maxfield Peterson, P.C. Pete has worked with a wide variety of closely held businesses and professional service firms, with over 25 years of management and consulting experience, including 10 years as the Chief Financial Officer and Director of Administration for a 240 attorney Minneapolis law firm and 3 years as the CFO for a 100 attorney Denver law firm. He was also the Chief Operating Officer for Hildebrandt International, an international law firm consultancy.
He has counseled firms on strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions, compensation, firm governance, succession planning, improving administrative structures, and profitability improvement.
Pete has been an Adjunct Professor in the MSLA program since 2004. He also teaches in the Essential Competencies for Legal Administrators offered by the Association of Legal Administrators. He is on the Board of Editors for the publication, Accounting and Financial Planning for Law Firms. In 2008, Pete was admitted as a Fellow in the College of Law Practice Management. He is a frequent speaker at educational and legal related conferences and seminars each year.
