Dean Harakas, Esq. is the Executive Director – Marketing and Strategic Development at Sherman & Howard L.L.C. He leads all of the firm’s business development and marketing initiatives, including strategic planning, practice development, client relations, media relations, brand management and messaging.

Prior to joining Sherman & Howard, Mr. Harakas served as Vice President – Client Services and Strategic Planning at Sachnoff & Weaver, Ltd. There he advised the firm’s management on strategic planning issues, including the firm’s combination with Reed Smith. While serving as Director of Marketing at Sachnoff, Mr. Harakas launched multiple innovative marketing, branding, advertising, Internet and media relations efforts that received several honors and awards from both general business and law firm marketing industry associations and organizations. As the “counselor’s counselor,” he also worked with individual firm attorneys to help them develop, refine and achieve their business development goals and objectives.

Mr. Harakas has more than 19 years of professional services marketing experience. A licensed member of the Illinois State Bar Association and The Missouri Bar, Mr. Harakas also worked in the marketing departments of Maslon Edelman Borman & Brand, LLP (Minneapolis); Perkins Coie (Seattle); Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal (Chicago); Andersen Consulting (World Headquarters/Chicago) and Arthur Andersen (Chicago).

Mr. Harakas also served as president of the Legal Marketing Association (LMA) Chicago Chapter (2000) and was a founding member and first president of the LMA Minnesota Chapter (1997). He has written numerous articles for legal and business publications and has spoken on several professional service marketing topics.

Mr. Harakas earned a J.D./MBA from Saint Louis University School of Law, where he was a member of the Saint Louis University Public Law Review. He also received a B.S.B.A. from Saint Louis University.
