How Do I Get My Lexis and Westlaw Passwords?
Passwords provide DU law faculty, students and staff access to the computer assisted legal research systems, Lexis and Westlaw, which may be used for educational purposes only.
1L’s – First year students receive passwords as part of the admissions process. Passwords will be sent to students along with other orientation information approximately one month before school starts. Database training is a required part of the Lawyering Process curriculum.
Visiting / Transfer Students – Visiting / Transfer students can request passwords at the Reference Desk on the third floor of the Law Library if they have not already received their passwords during their orientation meeting with Student Affairs.
Continuing Law Students – Upper level law students will use the same passwords throughout their time at the DU College of Law. Students who have lost or forgotten their passwords can request assistance at the Reference Desk in the Law Library or from Jessica Hogan, Manager of Educational Technology (303-871-6131).
Tax Students – Graduate tax students receive their LexisNexis & Westlaw passwords from Stacy Anderson, Graduate Tax Department at 303-871-6209.
MSLA or Environmental LLM Students – Students in these graduate programs receive their passwords during Orientation. Environmental LLM students should contact Lucy Daberkow, Graduate Programs Coordinator (303-871-6324) for assistance. MSLA students should contact Hope Kentnor, Director of Administration (303-871-6308).
Law Faculty – New faculty will receive passwords from Jessica Hogan, Manager of Educational Technology (303-871-6131) or Diane Burkhardt, Faculty Liaison (303-871-6194), or Patty Wellinger, Reference Services Coordinator (303-871-6479).
Law Adjunct Faculty – Adjunct faculty for the College of Law can request passwords from Patty Wellinger, Reference Services Coordinator (303-871-6479), or Jessica Hogan, Manager of Educational Technology (303-871-6131), or Diane Burkhardt, Faculty Liaison (303-871-6194). These passwords are valid only for the semester in which you are teaching.
University of Denver Students & Faculty – non-law students and faculty at the University of Denver are not allowed full Westlaw or LexisNexis access due to our contractual arrangement with these companies. Limited LexisNexis access is provided to these individuals through a database which the Law Library subscribes to called LexisNexis Academic. And Westlaw is available from two designated computers on the third floor of the Law Library.
Law School Alumni, Library Cardholders & Public Patrons – These individuals have access to Westlaw from two designated computers located on the third floor of the Law Library. Another full-text database called Loislaw is available locally through the public access computers in the Law Library.
