The LIS Overseas Externship program is highly selective and requires strong written and spoken Spanish skills. Students are required to take a language proficiency test in order to be considered for externship placement. Under the supervision of a Spanish-speaking attorney-mentor and the guidance of Professor Juárez, accepted externs gain valuable experience assisting Latin American and Spanish lawyers in drafting legal documents, conducting international business transactions, interviewing clients, doing research and going to court in a civil-law jurisdiction. The Lawyering in Spanish Program has developed international partnerships with over fifteen prestigious law firms throughout Latin America and Spain. Students interested in a LIS externship are strongly encouraged to participate in the classroom portion of the Guatemala summer program before starting their externship. Students are required to enroll concurrently in a one-credit online externship class taught by Professor Juárez.

Please contact Professor Juárez for additional information at bjuarez@law.du.edu.
