LIS Overseas Externships

The LIS Overseas Externship program is highly selective and requires strong written and spoken Spanish skills. Students are required to take a language proficiency test in order to be considered for externship placement. Under the supervision of a Spanish-speaking attorney-mentor and the guidance of Program Director Valeria Elliott, accepted externs gain valuable experience assisting Latin American and Spanish lawyers in drafting legal documents, conducting international business transactions, interviewing clients, doing research and going to court in a civil-law jurisdiction. The Lawyering in Spanish Program has developed international partnerships with over fifteen prestigious law firms throughout Latin America and Spain.
