Environmental and Natural Resources Law Program

The foundation of the advanced studies program, the University of Denver Environmental and Natural Resources Law program is the oldest legal studies program of its kind in the United States. The program offers law students academic training, clinical studies, and real-world experiences in the field of natural resources law and policy.

Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation (RMMLF)

The Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation is headquartered in Westminster, Colorado. RMMLF is an internationally recognized leader in the area of mineral, oil and gas, water, and public lands law, providing natural resources academic programs for thirty-one law schools, twelve state bar associations, and twenty mining and oil and gas associations. Among the more recent RMMLF conferences were programs on international oil and gas law, mineral development in Latin America, and natural resources and environmental litigation.

Rocky Mountain Land Use Institute

The Rocky Mountain Land Use Institute (RMLUI), housed at Denver Law, seeks to elevate the law, policy and practice of sustainable development in the West to promote nature-friendly, prosperous and equitable communities. Through innovative research, education and professional development programs and its renowned annual conference, RMLUI trains and connects students and professions across disciplines, sectors and regions to build the sustainable development field while creating new possibilities for the future of the West’s landscapes and livelihood.

Environmental Law Clinic

The Environmental Law Clinic is a joint undertaking of the College of Law and the Center for Biological Diversity. The Center is perhaps the most successful litigating environmental group in the nation, winning approximately 85% of its cases. The Center is dedicated to the preservation, protection and restoration of biodiversity, native species, ecosystems and public lands. Clinic students help handle Federal Court litigation under the Endangered Species Act, National Environmental Policy Act, Federal Land Policy and Management Act, National Forest Management Act, the Wilderness Act and other federal environmental statutes. The clinic emphasizes hands-on legal work to the extent possible and strives to expose students to career opportunities in public interest environmental law. The clinic is designed to serve as a capstone experience to law students specializing in environmental law, who have taken appropriate courses, and desire to practice what they have learned before leaving law school.

The Water Law Review

This student-run law review publication analyzes water law issues and summarizes the decisions of Colorado Water Courts. The Review is a primary source of legal information for the water bar.
