Sturm Theatre's Trial By Jury

Thursday, January 25, 2018 at 5:00pm - 6:00pm
Location: In the forum

Students, faculty, and special guests are set to perform Gilbert and Sullivan’s “Trial By Jury” on Jan. 25, 2018 at 5 p.m. in the forum.

The piece centers on a breach of contract to marry and follows the aggrieved young Angelina as she seeks redress in the Court of the Exchequer. Drama, satire, and a slew of bad jokes lace the storyline, which proceeds in an operatic fashion with a chorus by the jury.

Conducted by 1L Justin Yanowicz and spearheaded by Professor Lucy Marsh, the performance is meant to provide a lighthearted and welcome break from the rigors of studying, easily justified—in case you were needing it—by the storyline’s focus.

“I think there are lots of tensions at law school, and it’s fun to have the students there and faculty there trying to sing,” Marsh said.

This will be Sturm Theatre’s first production, and Marsh would like to make it an annual event, providing there is interest.

“[The] end of January to February gets pretty darn boring,” she said. “I think it’s nice to have a thing to do.”
