Clarence Darrow: A One-Man Play by: David W. Rentiels

The Parker Arts Council and Cafe La Papa are pleased to present: Clarence Darrow: A One-Man Play, written by David W. Rentiels and performed by former mayor of Parker David Casiano, will open this Saturday, September 28th at 6:00pm at Deep Space in Parker,CO. Tickets are $7.50 and may be purchased online at parkerartscouncil.org or at the door.

The play brings Darrow “back to life” and delves into his life as a lawyer, social justice activist, and noted member of the American Civil Liberties Union. Darrow is most known for his defense of Leopold and Loeb and John T. Scopes in the Scopes “Monkey” Trial.

Other Dates include:

Saturday, October 5th at 6:00pm $7.50 each Saturday, October 12th at 6:00pm $7.50 each Saturday, October 19th at 6:00pm $7.50 each

All performances will be held at Deep Space ~ 11020 S. Pikes Peak Dr. Parker, CO 80134

National Lawyers Guild General Meeting

We will be formally introducing the 2013 National Lawyers Guild to the DU Community with guest speaker attorney Jes Jones from Killmer, Lane & Newman LLP. We’re looking to fill board positions to help us bring the Guild into focus. ALL students are welcome to attend!

Come tell us how you think justice should work and learn how to become activist in your community. Snarf’s Subs will be provided for lunch!

Here are a few examples of issues the NLG gets involved in:

o Anti-fracking legislation
o Representing civilians fighting unjust foreclosure
o Illegal detainment at Guantánamo
o Fast food workers’ strikes
o Freedom of speech concerning OCCUPY protesters
o Turmoil in the middle east, including the War on Syria
o Keystone pipeline protests
