Disability Discrimination and Social Equality
Friday, February 8, 2013 at 11:00am - 12:30pm
Location: Sturm Hall Room 275
In this talk, I evaluate the normative principles espoused by the Disability Rights Movement that have been enacted in the Americans with Disability Act (ADA). Among disability theorists and activists, the minority group model of disabilities is the preferred normative response to disabilities. My goal is to rethink this model of disability, which is insufficient for treating people with disabilities as equals. Anti-discrimination alone cannot meet the demands of the most severely disabled.
