Introduction to the American Legal System | L4064

This course is designed for international LLM students who have not previously had exposure to either the US legal system or other common law systems. It focuses on the American legal system, including the three branches of government, federalism, the hierarchy of courts, and the anatomy of a lawsuit. Students will get a rigorous writing experience, drafting at least one legal document, such as a memorandum or brief. In so doing, students will learn about legal research, analysis, writing, and Blue booking. Students may also be asked to deliver an oral argument.
