Diane S. Barrett, JD'83

Alumni Professionalism Award - 2004

Diane Barrett earned her undergraduate degree in English and Social History from the University of Kentucky and a joint MA degree in Librarianship/Juris Doctor from the University of Denver. After DU, Barrett joined the firm of Lamm Edstrom & Braymer where she “learned to enjoy the arcane municipal finance practice very much.” Its intricacies continue to challenge her twenty years later. In 1994, Barrett joined Holme Roberts & Owen, where she found “not only the relief and benefit of practicing with other lawyers in [her] main practice area (municipal finance and real estate) but an even more open acceptance of [her]community activities as part of [her] life and practice.” HRO gave her the opportunity to expand her long involvement with women’s issues. In January of 2006, Barrett left HRO and joined Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper’s office as Special Assistant to the Mayor. Her duties will focus on transit and development-related issues, including FasTracks implementation, Denver Union Station, and ongoing improvements to the development review and permitting processes.
