Donald L. Sturm, JD’58

Thompson Marsh Award - 1999

In 1999, Donald L. Sturm became the second recipient of the coveted Thompson Marsh Award. A longtime trustee of the University of Denver, Don is also CEO and chairman of the Board of Sturm Group Inc., the Bank of Cherry Creek, and eight other regional lending institutions. Don’s generous contributions to the University of Denver continue to finance many necessary building renovations, and the Sturm Family Foundation allocates funds to a number of Colorado charities. Donald and Susan share a belief in giving back to the community, and are each involved in educational opportunities for low-income children; affordable housing, particularly with regard to homeownership for low-income households; and Jewish-life activities that emphasize outreach and access within the Jewish community. On September 23, 2004, Donald LLB ’58 and Susan Sturm announced a gift of $20 million to the University of Denver College of Law. The gift is one of the largest in the history of the University and is representative of the Sturm’s intense and abiding commitment to quality education. In honor of their generosity, the University of Denver Board of Trustees established the Sturm College of Law.
