Laura Butler Embleton, JD'91
Bruce B. Johnson Outstanding Recent Alumni Award - 2002
Laura Butler Embleton, the inaugural recipient of the Bruce B. Johnson Outstanding Young Alumni Award, began her understanding of leadership in junior high when she campaigned for class treasurer by handing out mini-mimeographed teacups that read, "Let me be your Butler, let me serve you." She lost the election, but it did not deter her from becoming active in student government at Arapahoe High School in Littleton, Colo., and then the University of Colorado at Boulder. At the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, she served as president of the Student Bar Association and became the founder and editor of the school's newspaper, The Writ. After graduating in 1991, Embleton forged her own path as a leader in Denver's legal community. She is currently Executive Director for the Colorado Institute for Leadership Training (CILT); In addition to working with CILT, Laura maintains her Estate Planning Practice, and is active with campaigns and the Arapahoe County Democrats. She continues to be active with the Denver, Colorado, and American Bar Associations and has chaired many community programs through the Denver Bar Association.
