Tom Byrnes is a Senior Deputy District Attorney for the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office. Before joining the District Attorney’s Office, he worked with the Denver office of Feldmann Nagel, LLC, where he specialized in criminal law and managed the firm’s military law practice group. Tom served as a Navy Officer for six years on active duty as a judge advocate, where he was assigned as a Staff Judge Advocate, a military defense counsel, a Special Assistant United States Attorney, and as a prosecutor handling a wide range of felony cases at courts-martial. He deployed to Baghdad, Iraq, as a legal advisor for Multi-National Forces (Iraq) in 2006. Tom was recognized by the American Bar Association as the Navy’s Young Service Lawyer of the Year in 2008 and was selected by the Navy as the Prosecutor of the Year in 2009. Tom is a graduate of the Ave Maria School of Law in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where he was a Law Review Associate Editor and the Student Bar Association President. He continues to serve as a judge advocate and Lieutenant Commander in the Navy Reserves, and he volunteers with the Colorado Bar Association Leadership Training Program (COBALT).
